ToggleLittle Gems of the Balkans
MONTENEGRO
Montenegro is known for its beautiful coastline and historic cities. A small country on the coast of the Adriatic Sea. Best known for its sapphire beach-front port cities, Montenegro means “black mountain” in Italian. The black mountain here refers to Mount Rovčen, which looks unusually black.

Located in the karst region of the Balkans, Montenegro faces the Adriatic Sea to the west. The country is dotted with medieval villages, many of which are UNESCO World Heritage Sites, along with stunning views of the Bay of Kotor, the fjord of Eastern Europe. With more than 100 beaches along the coastline, Montenegro is one of the top vacation destinations in southeastern Europe.
Podgorica
Podgorica is the administrative, political, economic, transportation, educational, and cultural center and capital of Montenegro, located in the north of the Zeta Plain, in the center of the country, at the crossroads of several major cities leading to the sea and the continent. Podgorica is located at the confluence of the Rivnica and Moraca rivers, where the Zeta Plain and the Bjelopavlići Valley meet. Its fertile lowland location, as well as its proximity to ski resorts within a few kilometers to the north and the Adriatic Sea to the south, were key factors in its settlement and development.
